On the evening of April 2, Professor Cai Li, professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Accounting of Southwest University of Finance and Economics, was invited by our institute to give an online academic lecture. The theme of the lecture is "Thesis Writing for Master of Audit Studies: Proceeding from topic selection." The lecture was chaired by Professor Xia Ning, head of the Department of Finance and Accounting of the Business School. Teachers of the Department of Accounting and Accounting of the Business School, Master of Audit and MBA students attended the lecture.
Before the lecture began, Professor Xia Ning gave a speech and expressed his warm welcome to Professor Cai Li, who was invited. Professor Cai Li has published more than 20 academic papers in authoritative domestic journals such as "Accounting Research", "Audit Research", and "Economic Research". She has presided over more than 10 national and provincial-level projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, the Humanities and Social Sciences Program of the Ministry of Education, and the Key Scientific Research Projects of the Audit Office. Currently, she is the deputy director and office director of the Chinese Government Audit Research Center, the deputy director of the Professional Degree Education Center of Accounting School of Southwest University of Finance and Economics, the director of the China Auditing Society, the member of the China Accounting Society, and the appraiser of the Center for Degree and Postgraduate Education Development of the Ministry of Education.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Cai Li explained the difference between professional degree thesis and academic degree thesis. Based on the data from 2015 to 2021 of Southwest University of Finance and Economics, she analyzed that most of the students chose to do case studies in the past. Based on the case study, Professor Cai Li explained the difference between the professional master and the academic master ，and proposed three requirements for the topic selection: First, be familiar with the literature in a certain field and make innovations based on it; Second, possess certain original creativity; Three should "stand up to heaven" (There should be theoretical or conceptual breakthroughs and based on facts).
Afterwards, Professor Cai Li put forward some suggestions on the way of thinking, path and evaluation standard of the thesis, and combined with the structure of the master's thesis, she elaborated the writing content, analysis method and logical structure of the thesis in chapters. In addition, Professor Cai Li focused on the error-prone points in the process of defining the concept of the thesis topic, reasoning and proving the logical relationship, and encouraged the students to strive to improve the thesis from "qualified" to "high quality".
In the last communication link, the teachers and students on the scene actively asked questions on the difficult problems of the thesis topic selection, Professor Cai Li gave detailed answers to these problems, and the teachers and students had a deeper understanding of how to choose the thesis topic.
This lecture is of great significance to our college to ensure the quality of graduation thesis and the quality of talent training.
