The Department of Business Administration, the Party Branch of the Business Administration of the College of Business held the 24th Youth Academic Seminar in the afternoon of April 8, 2024, in Conference Room 813 of the Library Complex Building of Xueyuan Road Campus. Dr. Chen Siyu, assistant researcher at the Labor Economics Research Office of the China Institute of Labour Movement, presented the title "Is Competition Increasing '996'? Competition and employee overwork: a study based on employer-employee matching survey data". The seminar was presided over by Lecturer Wang Hui. The teachers of the Department of Business Administration such as Guo Ying, Wang Ling, Li Can, Shao Kaiyu and many PhD and Master students attended the seminar.

Dr. Chen Siyu first pointed out the necessity of research on overwork in recent years from the background of the prominent problem of overtime, long working hours and high work pressure. Then, the paper elaborates the whole research process from the literature and theory, variables and models, and empirical results. Finally, she puts forward some suggestions combining with the conclusions of the study, pointing out that enterprises should pay attention to the career development planning of employees, optimize the post system and provide better promotion environment for employees.

During Dr. Chen Siyu's wonderful presentation, the teachers and students discussed the broad applicability of the research conclusions in different industries, whether the enterprise effect should be controlled in the research process, the differences between economics and management research, and how to find tool variables to solve endogenous problems. The academic atmosphere was strong. The teachers and students have expressed great achievements and are looking forward to the next Youth Academic Seminar to learn and exchange together. This Youth Academic Conference is concluded successfully.
