On April 21, 2024, the undergraduate team under the guidance of Chen Jiajun and Liang Jianqiao from the Department of Finance and Accounting of the School of Business won the "First Prize" and "Best PPT Award" in the "Regional Finals of the 13th IMA Campus Management Accounting Case Competition", and won a bonus of 3,000 yuan and successfully advanced to the national finals. The team, named "Metis" (Goddess of Wisdom), is composed of five students, including Wu Jieying and Cao Shirui, 2020 undergraduate students majoring in financial engineering, Xu Zihan and Shang Yuwen, 2020 majoring in international business, and Li Junyan, 2021 majoring in international business. They will participate in the national finals in May this year as the only team in North China. This result broke the best result achieved by our school in the three years of participating in this competition.
"IMA Campus Management Accounting Case Competition" is a national campus case competition held by the American Institute of Management Accountants in China, which is open to undergraduate and graduate management students in colleges and universities across the country, using real management accounting cases of Chinese enterprises to test the management decision-making ability of the participants, and the language of the competition is English. The Campus Case Competition is held once a year, and has been successfully held for 13 times since it was first held in 2011. The competition attracted 957 teams from 138 colleges and universities across the country. Among them, 136 teams from 19 universities participated in the North China Division. A total of 6 teams from the School of Business (including 3 undergraduate teams and 3 graduate teams) signed up for the competition. After the first round of internal selection, 5 teams qualified for the second round of the North China regional preliminary round, and after fierce competition, 7 teams from 6 universities, including the "Metis" team of China University of Political Science and Law, stood out in the preliminary round and advanced to the third round of the North China regional finals.
On April 21st, in the thrilling North China Regional Finals held in Beijing, the "Metis" team of our school moved forward bravely, overcoming obstacles all the way, winning the "First Prize" and the Best "PPT" award in the regional finals in one fell swoop, and advanced to the national finals.
In the preparation process of the competition, three teachers from the Department of Finance and Accounting, including Chen Jiajun, Liang Jianqiao and Yu Yuying, carefully organized the on-campus selection competition of the participating teams, and guided the participating teams one-on-one.
The winning "Metis" team is composed of 5 undergraduates from the business school, the team has a strong lineup, the team members not only have a solid basic knowledge of business, but also have a wide range of knowledge, covering a wide range of fields: some of them are good at industry and corporate financial data analysis, and have won the second prize of the KPMG Business Competition, and some have won the first prize of the American Collegiate Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The second prize of the National College Students' Mathematical Modeling Award, students with scientific modeling ability, students who participated in the Beijing College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project and served as the team leader, and students who have internship experience and practical experience in well-known multinational companies and fund companies. The two instructors of the team, Chen Jiajun and Liang Jianqiao, have been engaged in teaching and scientific research in the field of management accounting for a long time, and have presided over a number of enterprise consulting projects and have rich practical experience. Under the careful and meticulous guidance of the teachers for many rounds, the participating team members worked closely together, united and cooperated, adopted the theoretical knowledge related to management accounting decision-making, carried out in-depth industry research, obtained a large number of first-hand information such as annual reports and participating cases, scientifically designed decision-making models, and the case analysis results fully reflected the unity of strategy, future and science, which was highly praised by the judges of the competition.
At the award ceremony, the organizing committee of the competition also invited Chen Jiajun, the representative of the instructor, to share his wonderful experience on case organization, design, analysis and report, and Wu Jieying, the student representative, also delivered a sincere acceptance speech after winning the award.
By participating in the campus case competition, the students strengthened their professional knowledge, improved their comprehensive ability to find and solve problems, and their English proficiency, and also cultivated their professional qualities such as communication skills and teamwork spirit, showing the excellent demeanor of the students of the University of Law Business School.
