China University of Political Science and Law's summer semester is in full swing. On July 15, 2019, the international course "China and the EU: Economic and Trade and Diplomatic Relations" organized by the Business School officially started. Presenter is Associate Professor Laetitia Langlois, Director of the Trilingual Negotiation Department at the University of Angers, France. She has extensive experience teaching in famous universities in the UK, France and Italy, and is experienced in educational affairs such as the Erasmus Management, European-Korea cooperation project. This is Professor Langlois's second visit to China University of Political Science and Law. The professor praised the performance of Chinese students. She said that "Chinese students are hardworking and active, and actively participate in classroom interaction." The activity level of the classroom greatly exceeded her expectations. .
"China and the EU: Economic and Trade and Diplomatic Relations" aims to focus on the increasingly close relationship between China and the EU since China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. Economic ties between China and the EU are booming. In addition, both China and the EU encourage closer bilateral relations in terms of diplomacy and culture. In the context of the European Union under the pressure of Brexit in 2016, the close relationship between the EU and China may become a tool for strengthening strength and prospering the economy. The students had a heated discussion on the relationship between the EU and China, including issues related to Brexit. The close integration of the curriculum with the international situation has further stimulated students' enthusiasm for studying the curriculum. In one class, the professor asked the students to simulate the Brexit voting scene. The interesting moments in the class kept appearing and the atmosphere was excellent.
This course focuses on the perspectives of the European Union and major EU countries: China's trade and economic relations with the European Union; China's diplomatic relations with the European Union; the challenges which China-EU would face under a series of events after Brexit.
In the course, Ms. Langlois also taugh the customs of Europe and broaden the students' understanding of Europe. The students were very interested, actively answered questions, spoke enthusiastically, expressed their opinions on the relationship between China and the EU, and the classroom atmosphere was very active. Professor Langlois spoke highly of the students, believing that the students were hard-working, good at thinking, and were able to think through the issues more thoroughly, which left a deep impression on her.
The students gave very high praise to this course. Zhang Siyu, a student from the Civil, Commercial and economics law school 1801, said, "Professor Langlois was the first French teacher I met. She is very gentle and kind, at the same time knowledgeable and patient. It is very lucky to meet such a teacher.”
The opening of international courses has broadened the international perspective of students and gave students more opportunities to learn about the international community. This course construction is not only an important part of the introduction of international high-quality teaching resources to improve the quality of undergraduate education. It is a process of deepening cultural identity and emotional exchange between teachers and students of our school and European cultural ambassadors, and this international course has undoubtedly enhanced the Department of International Business to build a high-level international business talents education base’s confidence and sense of mission under the guidance of Strategy for building Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the new era.
